As I write to you, I first want to welcome you to the third quarter. It is hard to believe that we are already halfway through 2017. I hope that the last six months have been fruitful and productive for you. If not, I hope that you have concocted a plan to make the second half of the year better. The third quarter is not the time to become passive or mediocre in your pursuit of your goals. I’m encouraging you to stay focused and be fervent in your pursuit of greater results. Remember that the prize is never given to the passive. Make a plan and set the course to make your third quarter successful.
Is your light shining? Or has your light become dim? How can you be a greater light in the world around you? I think that many times we have different perspectives on what light is. To some people, light is an opportunity to be seen and to show the world how great they are. However, when I talk about light I am talking about something totally different. I have seen the proud and the arrogant and I am totally turned off by it. While there is nothing wrong with feeling good about yourself, when your ego becomes larger than life you are headed for expiration. We appreciate your gift; however, your attitude does have the potential to disqualify you for greatness. It is so important that you remain grounded and that you understand that greatness is a privilege that should never be abused. When you abuse the light you abort the opportunity to lead in your generation.
As you know, I am currently in the middle of promoting my new book Chosen: Strategies for Revolutionary Leadership. I am so thankful to share this message with the world. It’s the most important book I have ever written. This book is my legacy and the most important message that I can share with my generation. Every day I see talented individuals that are forfeiting greatness. It’s not enough to be gifted and talented. We also have to be processed and developed for greatness. My new book explores the journey and development that it takes to reach greatness in life. Many people look at my life and marvel at the wisdom I share and the things that I have been able to accomplish. However, much of that can be attributed to great coaches and mentors that I have submitted my life to for development. Without those individuals, I would not be who I am today. Development is essential to manifesting your destiny.
Shining your light is not about craving the spotlight or trying desperately to be seen. In fact, everyone that knows me will tell you that being seen was never my objective. I have never liked the spotlight or craved attention. However, God gave me an assignment that was much bigger than me. It forced me out of comfort zone and thrust me onto a global stage. Now my life and work are reaching people all around the world. I would be foolish to think that I got here on my own. Talent and skill did not get me here. My uncommon ability to connect with people at a deep level did not get me here. I understand that I am only here because God allowed me to reach this place in my life. Shining your light is submitting your life to God’s desire and divine design. Shining your light is not living for the approval or affirmation of other people. If you truly want to shine your light, then you will shed all the layers and surrender so God can make you an uncommon leader. It was only when I surrendered that I started to experience true success in my life. You may think you have it all together and all figured out. However, there’s a divine plan for your life and you must cooperate with that plan. Shining your light is not about status or fame. Shining your light is making the decision to surrender to the uncommon future that has been prepared for you. When you understand that your life is bigger than you that is when you really start to benefit the world.
In closing, I am not telling you not to be proud of your accomplishments. On the other hand, I am telling you to maintain perspective no matter what promotions come your way. Remain humble and learn to be thankful for the journey that brings you into greatness. Never be deceived into believing that you achieved success by your own merits. Realize that you are privileged to occupy a position of leadership. Lead with diligence, humility, and honor. As great as you think your plans are, trust me that God has an even greater plan for your life than you could ever imagine. Understand that power is for service and not the promotion of self. Use your platform to make a difference and enrich the life of every person you come in contact with. You won’t live for the limelight. Instead, you will live to serve your generation. Shine your light!
