As we celebrate the life of one of the greatest leaders in history, I decided to take some time as I always do to listen to the famous “I Have A Dream” speech. It never gets old to me and every time I hear it I am deeply challenged and moved. More importantly, I just learned that this speech was totally unplanned. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. had a scripted speech that he had prepared. However, being deeply moved and compelled he chose to deviate from the script. I believe he began to speak prophetically about a different day in America. Those powerful words continue to resonate and revolutionize the world so many years later. Listening to the speech again got me to thinking about the dreamer in all of us. This is the year to live your dream life. You must never forget the power you have to dream!
What is your dream? How have you allowed your dreams to be deferred? When will you dare to live the life of your dreams? A dream is a divine moment of awareness that creates a portal to a divine appointment. It is a preview of life’s coming attractions. A dream is a preview of your prophetic future. The problem is that we allow despondency to creep into our lives and rob us of our dreams. Or we allow dream killers to murder our dreams. Somewhere along the path we stop believing that the dream is possible. What I love about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is that he dreamed of a day that he would never live to see. He dreamed a dream so powerful that the dream is still preserved generations later. When you dream divinely inspired dreams your dreams will outlive you. When you dream big future generations will be able to draw from your dream. Dr. King dreamed of the possibilities for his posterity. We are now a manifestation of his dream. Isn’t that powerful? Do not just dream for today. Dream something that will awaken the trailblazers of tomorrow. Dream so grand that the next generation can grab ahold of it. Your dreams have the power to deliver the world.
In closing, let us all take time to honor the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. today. Very few people have impacted by life the way that he has. He is not just a great leader. He was chosen to make a difference in a time where injustice was rampant in the world. I am the fruit of his dream and so are you. I still hold this dream for future generations. I dream of the day when a man will not be judged by the color of his skin but the content of his character. I long for the day when we all have the same pulse and we unite as the human race. May the life, legacy and dream of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. live on for generations to come!
