As I write to you, we are literally days away from ending the third quarter. If you have been following my work for a while, you know that the ending of any quarter holds significance. In fact, I believe quarters are barometers for how well we are balancing our lives. I believe that the third quarter is a critical time. It is when every moment counts. You have been hearing me say this for the last three months. It is so vital to take advantage of the moment. You have to seize opportunity and you have to purpose to be productive. Your lack of productivity is your responsibility. If the third quarter was unfulfilling and uneventful for you, then you need to put a plan in place to do something differently. You are not being condemned but you are being called to live your life with greater concentration in the days to come. Being more fruitful begins with being more focused!
Can you believe we are already ending the third quarter? What goals did you set for yourself in the third quarter? Have you taken time to reflect and assess the third quarter? If so, what was the conclusion of your reflection? Reflection is a powerful metric for repositioning our lives and achieving greater results. In fact, reflection is a tool that I have used for years. I use it in my personal life and I also use it with my clients. Reflection is the process of measuring our activities to ensure that our moments are not lived aimlessly. Reflection is assessing our lives in order to achieve more in our lives. A life without reflection will become restricted. Reflection forces us to get real about the results we are achieving in our lives. Reflection not only challenges us but also demands that we confront the things that are constricting our ability to get to the next level in our lives. Reflection is the great evaluator. Effectiveness will always evade you without evaluation. When you reflect on your moments you are empowered to rule your moments. This is a critical time to reflect on your life!
In closing, many metrics go into determining our success or failure in life. However, I believe that one of the greatest measures of effectiveness is reflection. As we are coming to the end of the third quarter, I want you to stop, pause and spend some time reflecting on your life. Evaluate how productive you have been. Evaluate how well you are seizing moments of opportunity. Evaluate how disciplined you have been. Evaluate how much progress you have made. The goal of reflection is never to make you feel bad. The goal is always to force you to do better. When we avoid assessment we cannot align our lives for achievement. Make a decision that you are going to reflect so you can determine what you can do differently. Then position yourself to make the fourth quarter of 2014 your greatest one yet. This is the moment for reflection!
